Agree 100%. Possession is still a weakness. We have improved a lot in that area but lack the players or tactics or both to be able to retain the ball for long periods. We also know that sideways tippy tappy passing for the sake of it is no use (Zola's West Ham) but in midfield the game is often won by keeping the ball. Yesterday, we were being bypassed too easily and we saw that Poyet has still a lot to learn even though I admit I was calling for him to be given the chance. He will be a Premiership player from what I have seen but is young and still learning his trade at this level.

Anyway, Noble for all his lack of pace is the conduit for a lot of our play and he and Kayoute were definitely missed.

Because he wouldn't be here perhaps

How do you know no one was in for him?

Noble is an excellent, humble servant of the side any decent manager would rip your arm off if offered.

[ponders on why no-one came in for Noble when we were relegated...... or any other time]

Ha! Yep, our Knocks seem to be pretty bad!

Re: We missed Noble today
Fordstar, here's what Downing, a man who plays with Noble week after week, and trains with him daily has to say. But no doubt you know better becuase you were once quite good in an under 15's team....

"He looks at team-mates like Mark Noble, and wonders why the England manager, Roy Hodgson, hasn't picked him. I'm very surprised he hasn't had a call. I always admired 'Nobes' when I played against him, thought he's a really good footballer, but he's impressed more working with him every day with his application, and being a good captain when he leads the team. He's probably been the most consistent performer since I've been here. That's what they call him: 'Mr Consistency'.

Fabian Delph has done really well (for Villa and now England), but he has probably played well for the last six months. Mark has been doing it for the last six years. He's very unlucky not to be in."

Hmmm... We've been here before with "knocks" haven't we?

Fingers crossed he's back soon because with Kouyate out and Song finding his game we need him in the side.

Also: there's more chance of Nolan getting back in and then being hard to shift with the injuries we have...

seth 12:49 - I think it's only a 'knock' whatever that is?
Injured his ankle in training so probably not out for long?

Norman. I had Crassus right. And calling him a cunt is a bit much. We had been woeful until Liverpool really. I thought we did well.

Norman

Either pissed or moronic

For the hard of understanding, namely you - we are not a decent side, At least were not last year, playing predictable football and flirting with relegation.

After our modest yet seemingly wise investment over the summer, the side appears to me reborn, both in players and style.

Up against Man Utd, without 2 of 3 MF'ers that have formed the bedrock in early season, we put up a good show, irrespective of their defensive problems.

When's he back?

Re: We missed Noble today
SG - True! Even Phil Neville said this is the best WHU side for years.

We DID miss Noble yesterday, his workrate is second to none for our team, we probably wouldn't have been overrun so much in midfield for the first half hour or so, we just didn't turn up apart from the glorious chance that Valencia should have buried.

We went back to the old West Ham..we played a blinder last week and Man Utd had a mare, yesterday they had a weak defence with a youngster making his debut so what do we do...give them the ball for the first half hour and a 2 goal lead!

The one thing we still don't do with any conviction is hold onto the ball for long periods of time, we seem to chase a lot of games hence our players are always knackered.

If we could sort that bit out we'd be up there.

Re: We missed Noble today
Without a doubt we missed Noble. He covers more ground than any other player in the whole Premier League, gets stuck in, is quick to spot a pass and is calm on the ball. He was comfortably our player of the year last season and whilst he's been below his best this season so far, of course we missed him.

I genuinely think we'd have won yesterday had both he AND Kouyate been fit. This midfield diamond when fit is the best midfield we've had since the likes of Carrick/Cole/Lampard/Sinclair in my opinion.

Valencia In first half..that was criminal..
There for the taking todaythe mancs..and Rooney handed it on a silver platter...and we still fucked up. Any cunt who says we played well knows nothing about
football

I thought we were fucking shit considering.
No composure on the ball..to many stray passes.

Re: We missed Noble today
Valencia was off form and he still showed amazing pace and skill. Looked the best player on the pitch. He is quick as fuck and can nick any ball off a defender chasing them down into the corners.

Could be something else when Carroll comes back.
